On the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, 17 February, between 15:30 and 17:00, the Bled Strategic Forum is co-organising a debate with the BMW Foundation in the so-called Responsible Leaders Hub.

The discussion “Facing the Geopolitical Transformation: Global Governance is Dead! Long Live Global Governance!” will focus on the need for urgent reforms of the outdated institutional framework of global governance. The unprecedented geopolitical shifts, triggered by politically disruptive technological advancements, the return of great power competition as well as the rise of non-state actors, have rendered the post-1945 multilateral system of governance outdated. What kind of transformations of the global governance system are needed if we are to effectively respond the contemporary global challenges?

Panellists:

  • Carlos ALVARADO QUESADA, Professor of Practice of Diplomacy, The Fletcher School, Tufts University; Former President of the Republic of Costa Rica
  • Borge BRENDE, President, World Economic Forum
  • Robert GOLOB, Prime Minister, Republic of Slovenia
  • Rebeca GRYNSPAN, Secretary-General, United Nations Conference on Trade & Development (UNCTAD)
  • Philipp THER, Founding Director, Research Center for the History of Transformations; University of Vienna
